As the memory of New Year’s Eve drinks and countdowns fade, the responsibilities of everyday life return. With the resume of your commute and walk to school, you are surely itching to update your playlists with some new tunes from your favourite artists. In case you missed the cryptic Tweets and Instagram videos from your fav band back in 2018, we got you covered with what 2019 may have in store. Here is a list of artists who have stirred up rumours about what they will be releasing in the new year.
1) Lana Del Rey – Norman Fucking Rockwell
What would music be in 2019 without the sultry songstress herself dropping a new album. In an interview with Zane Lowe, Del Rey announced that her new album is complete and she’s just sitting on it. Working with Jack Antonoff of FUN fame, we are expecting some heavy guitar riffs and piano ballads, keeping it true to Del Rey’s style.
2) Ariana Grande – Thank U, Next
Ariana Grande closed off the year with her chart-topping bop, Thank U, Next. The song came just weeks after her public split with Saturday Night Live cast member Pete Davidson and will also be the title of her upcoming album in 2019.
Since her 2016 smash album ANTI, Rihanna left the music scene to focus on her other creative endeavours. The multitalented woman was snubbed by the Grammy’s that same year, but that didn’t let it stop her from releasing more banger’s and being unapologetically her. In true Rihanna style, she teased fans with a clip from the studio of some unedited vocals. We are here for it RiRi!
4) Childish Gambino
The multitalented actor, musician, producer and director Donald Glover A.K.A. Childish Gambino will reportedly be releasing his final album in 2019. Gambino has previously reported that he has accomplished everything he has wanted to in music, and his next album will close off this chapter in his life.
5) The 1975 – Notes on a Conditional Form
The 1975 have just released their third album this past November and are already in talks about releasing their fourth in 2019. According to reports, a single from their new album should be dropping in early February.
6) The Weeknd – Chapter 6
Since My Dear Melancholy, it has been nearly a full year since fans have heard anything from Toronto native, The Weeknd. With his past album receiving rave reviews from fans, it seems like the crooner may be returning to his emotionally driven roots with this upcoming project.
7) Harry Styles
In 2017, the 1D member returned to the studio after a nearly 2-year hiatus from music. Releasing his debut solo album marked a change in direction for the Brit when he let critics know that he was serious about music. Since the end of his tour in 2018, Styles has reportedly been in studio’s in LA and London.
8) Tame Impala
2019 looks to be a promising year for the Australian rockers. Aside from raising rumours about their new album, the group will also be headlining Coachella and will hopefully bless their setlist with some new sounds.
9) Sky Ferreira
Sky Ferreira made her debut in 2013 with Night Time, My Time, and has worked on some side projects since. Finally breaking her silence, Ferreira took to her social media and announced that she has something new in the works.
10) J. Cole
Since the release of KOD in mid-April, J. Cole has maintained that he would be releasing a follow up in the coming months. As 2018 came to a close, fans were left hanging and puzzled as to when they would hear some new material. Their prayers were answered when J. Cole posted a photo on his Instagram announcing his new album Revenge of the Dreamers III.
With 2019 looking to be a promising year in music, it is totally ok with us if you start marking your calendars with the newest album release dates…every music lover does it and we defo aren’t judging.
